Eastham Close: Demolition 2008

Eastham Close is situated adjacent Beacon hill Rise Road, and Eastham Close Road, and had one block of flats together with a short row of houses, one of which is a 4 bedroom property. The properties were built by Wimpys in 1976, and the blocks of flats were the first to be demolished on the Stonebridge Park Estate in January 2008. Only the row of houses remains today. I do not have a photograph of the block of flats, except for a series showing there demolition. This took place in a major publicity event marking the start of the Stonebridge Park Regeneration Programme in January of that year. Councillor Jon Collins and other officials from Leicester Housing Association were present, along with Mr George Graham, whose wife Morean Graham was Chair of the Stonebridge Park Tenants & Residents Association, who pressed for the regeneration of the estate to take place. Mrs Graham died in the summer of 2007, and George passed away in 2011.
